A Crafting Call for Help

If you'd like to help with anything you see here just click --> Help Australia  for links you can donate to, to help.

 So a coworker at my day job, sent me a link to a call for crafters to help with the fires in Australia.  After my heartbreak a few years ago when we here in Portland, OR. lost our beloved multnomah falls and all the wildlife that we lost I knew I had to help with this.  As a lover of Australia since I was young, mostly due to the amazing animals and wildlife that lived there, I was happy to see I could use my crochet skills to help others!!

   The Animal Rescue Craft Guild has been amazing, letting us crafters around the world know what they need and how to get the items we craft to Australia.  We decided we will be using as much of our own supply/stock of yarn and fabric that we can butsome items need 100% natural fibers or specific materials. So I have already started a fundraiser on Facebook to help my small group of people ship and buy natural fiber fabric to line pouches with.  I also decided that I'll try and fundraise as much as I can so that any money not put toward our crafting for Australia can be split and donated to Global giving: Australian Wildfire Relief Fund (link above) and Animal Rescue Craft Guild (link also above).

   I'll also be doing my first Twitch stream (link to channel above) to night from 4:30pm - 6:30pm (pst), and it's probably going to not be the greatest (it's my first & idk if I'm fully set up but I can't wait, the fires still burn!) but I'm jumping in and going to learn to swim as I go. This will also be a charity stream for Australia, any "tip" donations will be directly used for crafting or sent to an organization.  I'll also have links to other groups if you'd rather donated directly or help in others ways.

   Also in my shop from now until the end of the month 20% of EVERY purchase in my Etsy shop will be directly used for crafting items for Australia or donated directly to either of my charities.

  Thank you for all your support and help, whether you do it directly or help me and my friends.  Anything is welcome and appreciated and the people & animals of Australia thank you as well!

FREE::Kawaii Unicorn Sparkle Donut

It’s Craftcratical Monthly Free project

It’s a Sweet Surprise!

A magically sweet Unicorn donut pattern.

   So this pattern started back during Christmas.  Every year I participate in the Secret Santa event we hold at work and after a few years people have come to know/expect a crocheted item from me.  Which I will say has made me a popular Santa to say the least! This was the first year however I got someone who was brand new to my workplace and did not know very well, (it also didn’t help that I caught a little bit of pneumonia right after the initial drawing was held) so I didn’t have a lot of time to ask around to see if anyone knew anything she was into game/anime related.  So I decided to make something that even I would be happy to open from a surprise present! A kawaii glittery unicorn donut keychain!

  So as I looked around for a free donut pattern to get me started on my gift (I’m someone who needs a little bit of a jumping off point to get going) I found this one: Little things blogged FREE donut pattern which is really well done, simple and the pictures are really fantastic (give it a glance when you have a chance)!  After that I was off, crocheting as quickly as I could (I always get excited with a new pattern) and as it started to come together I thought to myself “Dang this is super cute! I should make this one of my new monthly FREE patterns, I think people would really appreciate it!” So I whipped open my laptop and here we are!  So as a big thank you to all my followers and supporters who have watched me grow over the years here is my FIRST free pattern of 2020 the Kawaii Unicorn Donut!
  If you are going to go the keychain and safety eye route I will say you do have to do a little extra planning.  Now after I attach my keyrings with yarn to my dolls I usually like to hot glue the back of them for extra durability (you don’t have to do this).  Also when attaching the eyes you’ll need to hold off on sewing & stuffing the donut base UNTIL you are done with the frosting layer because you’ll want to secure the eyes through both the frosting piece and the donut base piece, I will try to capture in pictures (below) what I mean/do.
  There are many ways you can adjust this pattern to your liking: like the frosting edging can be done scalloped (like I chose to do), you can keep it simple and leave it a single crochet round, or you can even get fancy with drips and drops all over!  You can even switch out the safety eyes for different colors/sizes or even omit them completely and embroider your own face or not even have a face! It’s all up to you and what you can come up with creatively. You are only limited by your own imagination here.  I’d love to see what you all come up with so don’t be afraid to tag me or send me pictures directly (I’ll add them to posts & blogs!).
